Whether you’ve just moved to Vancouver, are redesigning your living room or want to pick up a memento of your trip to the British Columbia capital that can adorn your home, these fantastic, independently owned home décor and interior design shops suggested by The HUNT Vancouver authors, The Food Gays, are bound to have something that fits your style.

For many, walking into The Cross Design & Decor is like walking into a very well-appointed dream. There are linens, plates, cutler, barware and luxe home furnishings to lust after everywhere you look. It’s no surprise that it’s where HUNT Vancouver ambassador and host of HGTV’s Love it or List It Vancouver Jillian Harris recommends to stock up on pretties to perk up your space.

If you’re more into a sleek, modern look, head to Inform Interiors to ogle the goods housed in their three-story, 30,000-square-foot warehouse. There’s high-end furniture and light fixtures, kitchenware and alluring accent pieces, all at the ready.

Looking for Japanese design? Make your way to Murata, where the philosophy of wa – living a harmonious life – is the guiding principle. You’ll find authentic, Nippon-sourced goods, from tea sets and tableware to intricately printed furoshiki, as well as traditional ikebana (floral arrangement) accessories, like handmade vases sourced from Japan’s Koka District.

For great tschotskes, head to Bird on a Wire Creations, a purveyor of handmade goods. Everything in this homegrown shop is made by local artisans, from striking photography prints and art to coffee mugs and sculptures. It’s basically a brick-and-mortar Etsy that supports Vancouver’s artistic community – the best kind of shopping local.

If barware is your thing, don’t miss Sips Cocktail Emporium. They have both new and vintage items that include tools like shakers and jiggers, as well as artisan bitters sourced from across North America. You can even gets hands-on here, with a workshop such as “Bartending Basics” that will teach you how to mix up a proper drink like a pro and impress everyone at the next dinner party you host.

For a lovely host gift or something to brighten up your accommodation, head to Full Bloom Flowers, where fair-trade blossoms are the name of the game. The arrangements that come out of this florist’s are always creative, no matter if you want something sleek and simple or wild and untamed.
