Stumped on a present for the mother figure in your life this year? We think that a spa session is always a wonderful treat – luxurious, indulgent and oh-so relaxing. Booking your mom an appointment at any of these spas and salons around the world is a marvelous way to celebrate her. Don’t forget to add some bubbly!

aquaMadre Hammam – Rome

This Turkish-style hammam in Rome’s Jewish Ghetto neighborhood will transport anyone who steps inside from the busy streets of modern-day to ancient times with its incense, vaulted brick ceilings and soothing sounds. With three rooms of varying temperatures (hot, tepid, and frigid), you can take a quick dip to prepare for the vigorous scrub, then spend time in the water rejuvenating.

Aurora Spa – Melbourne*

This light-filled, two-story day spa is a top choice in hip Melbourne. Just sitting the lounge with a consultation card, delicious cup of herbal tea and incredible bay view is enough to make you feel completely rejuvenated – and then there’s the actual services. The Unwind Retreat includes full-body exfoliation, hair treatment, facial mask and a cool river stone ritual, as well as an hour-long massage. Yes.

Body Blitz Spa – Toronto

At this women-only pampering space in Toronto, you can treat your mom to a Dead Sea salt pool, a eucalyptus steam room and a full body scrub that buffs and polishes her skin into super-smooth shape. Bliss.

Care Body & Soul – Rio de Janeiro

A grand, tranquil haven, Care Body & Soul is a day spa with a range of treatments that includes high-end nail care, massage, facials, makeup services, hair-styling, and, of course, depilation. (It is in Brazil, after all.)

Halsa Spa – Vancouver

This minimalist spa influenced by Scandinavian design offers deep relaxation via their euphoric sensory-deprivation float tank. Float therapy not your mom’s speed? They also have infrared sauna and massages at very reasonable prices. An all-around win.

Liquidrom – Berlin

Germans are big believers in the healthy benefits of a good sauna session, and this upscale, Zen spa is the ideal place to sweat all those toxins out. The saunas range from mild to gaspingly hot, but there are also massage treatments available and a saltwater flotation pool with underwater speakers that are manned by DJs on the weekend.

nailsaloon – Washington, D.C.

A twist on a typical nail salon, D.C.’s nailsaloon offers up cocktails (as well as coffee and tea) alongside their expert nail services. With a range of non-toxic, long-wear polishes and a charitable streak – a percentage of their proceeds benefit women’s organizations – your mom is sure to leave here both looking and feeling great.

Nimble/Knead – Singapore

This spa housed in a shipping container may be unconventional and refreshing in aesthetics, but the treatments offered – from the Destination Bali massage that uses long, soothing stroke and firm kneading, to the Black Magic body scrub that includes charcoal, green tea, malachite and cucumber extract – are 100% relaxing.

The City Street Spa – Amsterdam*

Nestled along the Prinsengracht, this upscale boutique spa will skillfully knead away every troubling thought for insubstantial musing from your mind. There are treatments galore: manis and pedis, neck, back and face care, scrub and wrap therapies, and massages ranging from hot stone to Swedish to deep tissue.

The Palms Spa – Miami

The Old-Florida charm at this spa is unparalleled – it carries the serene mood of a coastal cottage and sitting in their lounge feels like you’re relaxing in Lily Pulitzer’s Palm Beach home. But when it comes to the real relaxation here, the 80-minute massage is top-notch and it’s customizable; add a warm oil infusion scalp massage to round out the experience, and then enjoy your all-day access to the Tiki cabanas and pool outside.
