Happy Friday the 13th, everyone!
We hope that you’re getting in the spooky spirit of the month by having a horror movie marathon tonight – but if that isn’t your speed, then maybe you’ll be planning your Halloween costume instead. If you need a little help in the outfitting department, here are our picks for the best costume shops, in cities around the globe.
If you’re spending All Hallow’s Eve in The City of Lights, À La Poupée Marveilleuse is an essential stop for a killer costume. Located in the Marais, this little outfitter has been in business for 40 years and has gear for all ages (yes, even kids!). But if you have your heart set on going as your favorite manga or anime characters, then you should swing by Black Sugar in the 11th arrondisement.
Independently owned outfitter Centre Stage has been around for 30 years and quite literally has thousands of costumes available. No matter if you’re wanting to glam up or grunge down this year, they have you covered.
In Hong Kong’s Central, there’s Pottinger Street, an entire walkway that sells costumes, props and all things outrageous. This is an especially useful stop if you’re shopping last-minute, as all the stalls are right there and you can quickly pop in and out to pick up everything you need. Once you’ve got your outfit, make your way to Face Slap! for some face or body painting, if needed.
In business since 1957 and open year-round, Frank Bee Costume Center on East Tremont in The Bronx is the definitive get-up supplier in NYC. They stock 10,000 costumes (really!), so you can almost guarantee they’ll have what your heart desires – and if they don’t, then they surely have the accessories for you to DIY it.
In Tinseltown, finding where to get yourself a get-up isn’t the problem – it’s knowing which one to go to! In a town filled with costume professionals, the options can be overwhelming. If you want something eclectic, get thee to Make Believe Inc. Costumes, where the staff of theater actors will help you whip up the perfect ensemble in this quirky shop.
Cosplay emporium Pan-In-The-Box, located in Singapore’s Clarke Quay, is the perfect place to pick up Halloween costume essentials. There are all sorts of accessories – masks, wigs, wands, feather boas, temporary tattoos – as well as full-on ensembles, if that’s what’s needed.
If you want a wow rental (Halloween or otherwise), Southern Costume Company in the CBD is the bomb. They work with movie companies constantly, but anybody can rent an elaborate getup, as well as standards like monsters, naughty nurses and all the necessary accessories.
